Generation Inputs and Outputs

- Purpose: To deliver the requested AI-generated output, to screen prompts against our Acceptable Use Policy, to maintain your generation history and character library, and to investigate abuse when reported.
Because CharacterGen is an AI-powered platform, some of your data is processed by third-party AI and moderation providers in order to deliver the service:
- Content Moderation (Creem Moderation API): Every text prompt you submit is transmitted to the Creem Moderation API before any AI generation occurs. This service screens prompts against Creem's content safety policies and our Acceptable Use Policy. Prompts that are flagged or denied are blocked from generation.
- AI Generation Providers: Prompts and reference images that pass moderation are transmitted to the AI provider selected for the requested feature (including, depending on the feature, KIE, OpenRouter, Google Gemini, and Replicate) to produce the generated output.
- Automated Decision-Making: Moderation decisions are automated. If you believe your prompt was wrongly blocked, you may contact us at support@charactergen.app for human review.
These third parties process your data as independent or joint controllers under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
We rely on a limited set of trusted third-party providers to operate CharacterGen. Each provider receives only the data it needs for its specific function:

We do not sell your personal information. We share data with these providers only to the extent necessary to operate CharacterGen, under written data-processing terms where applicable.
We retain different categories of data for different periods:
- Account Information: Retained while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to handle disputes, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our agreements.
- Generated Images, Characters, and History: Retained until you delete them or close your account. You can delete individual items at any time from within the application.
- Uploaded Reference Images (temporary): Automatically deleted 7 days after upload via our storage provider's lifecycle rules, unless you explicitly save them to your character library.
- Prompts and Moderation Records: Retained only as long as needed to provide the service, enforce our policies, and comply with legal obligations.
- Payment and Billing Records: Retained as required by applicable tax and accounting law (typically up to 7 years).
- Server Logs: Rotated within a short operational window (usually 30 days or less) unless preserved for security investigation.
When a retention period ends, we delete or irreversibly anonymize the data.
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights over your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Deletion: Ask us to delete your account and associated personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Objection / Restriction: Object to or ask us to restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time.

However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to outside parties, except in the following circumstances:
- To the third-party service providers described above, strictly to operate CharacterGen.
- To comply with legal obligations or respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
- To protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users or others — including reporting illegal content (such as CSAM) to the relevant authorities.
- In the context of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, provided that any successor is bound by equivalent privacy obligations.
CharacterGen is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than the one where you reside. Where required by law, we implement appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "updated_at" date at the top of this policy.
